If the wisdom teeth don’t erupt properly, they can cause oral health problems, including decay, gum disease, infection, cysts, and more. Removing them proactively can help prevent future issues and keep your smile healthy.
Services
Dr Khaled Zoud offers a wide range of treatments at Wisdom Specialist Centre. Listed below are some of the most common oral surgery services we provide.
Impacted Canines
Sometimes teeth can become “trapped” within the jawbone. When this occurs, Dr Zoud can perform a procedure to expose the impacted tooth so that it can be brought into proper alignment. Impaction can happen with any tooth, but it commonly occurs in canines.
Difficult Teeth
Occasionally, a tooth may crack or break off at the gum line. Sometimes a tooth may develop a root fracture and become infected. In these instances, removing the tooth can be challenging. Dr Zoud can perform a surgical procedure to remove the tooth and address any resulting infection.
Frenectomy
A frenulum is a rope of tissue that connects the lip to the gums. Occasionally a frenulum may be attached too high or too low. When this occurs, it can actually push the teeth apart, leaving a gap in your smile. A frenectomy is a surgical procedure that reduces or eliminates this piece of tissue.
TMJ Disorders
The temporomandibular joints (TMJs) can become inflamed and tender if they are not in correct alignment. Many factors can affect the jaw joints, including arthritis, trauma, bruxism, and orthodontic malocclusion. Dr Zoud performs corrective jaw surgery to reduce symptoms associated with TMJ disorders.
Dental Implants
It’s important to replace missing teeth right away. Dental implants are considered the longest-lasting and most successful replacement option available. Dr Zoud places dental implants that can support a variety of restorations, including crowns, bridges, and dentures.
Sinus Lift
When upper molars have been missing for some time, the maxillary sinus can drop down. This is an issue if the patient wishes to pursue dental implants, as the sinus can invade the space where the implants should go. A sinus lift raises the sinus membrane back into its proper position and adds bone in the areas of deficiency. This increases candidacy for dental implants.
Facial Trauma
Dr Zoud is an expert in treating facial trauma, including jaw fractures, nose fractures, cheek bone fractures, orbital fractures, and facial lacerations. If you’ve sustained an injury to the mouth or face – especially one that required a trip to the emergency room – it’s important to have a consultation with an oral and maxillofacial surgeon.
Preprosthetic Surgery
Preprosthetic surgery is sometimes necessary prior to the delivery of a denture or other full-arch restoration. This type of treatment involves reshaping the bone ridge and gum tissue. Improving these hard and soft oral tissues prepare the dental arch, ensuring it serves as a sound base for a prosthetic.
